Naxen is a German trio playing classic "Norwegian" style BM with doom passages, which in my opinion adds a twist to the oh-so-stomped-chosen-path of the so-called 2nd wave black metal horde. It's almost too slow at times for me, but I can really appreciate the technical prowess from these relatively new guys. The second part, I agree, is where they really stand out! One of the best black metal bands of the last 8 years, which means they're beyond the boring tropes of the label. Intelligent and innovative with music geared towards the emotive ends of the work, not an adornment of scene badges or theatrical misanthropy. stevstemac
This wild 35-track all-metal benefit album features Mare Cognitum, Panopticon, and more reinventing songs by Tori Amos & others. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 3, 2020

Late 90's BM worship, but it's also a lil more than that. This album takes the best elements from the scene it's inspired by and mostly avoids the worst of it; the song-writing is well-written, it's performed with passion and fun, and the production is raw but isn't lo-fi. (i.e. it doesn't obfuscate and/or suckass).
Tl;dr It's safe but high quality BM. Recommended. Rabbit
